Day 16 Saying goodbye to many things...

July 19, 2011

As we moved on from Tetons National Park, I have come to the conclusion that I can not keep up with this Blog on a day to day posting format. The original intent was to download and edit photos at night and post a draft, and if there was no Wifi at least post blog when we reached town the next day. I have many days in the draft form, unable to post because of signal strength and/ or incapable bandwidth to post.

This has been exacerbated by the fact that the photo editing ap from the pad to the blog is difficult at best. A thumbnail photo is literally that of a seven year old thumb, and there is no numbering of photos or ability to put in folders. We have 4 devices that we use to photograph and after downloading, the ap puts them in separate folders with no time stamp. Now add in the fact that we take, on average 100-200 photos a day, and you have 2-3 hours per posting.

So you can imagine the frustration at trying to keep up to date.
We will try to post one or two images a day, straight from the IPhone app, just to keep you up to date on our progress. We will continue to attempt to post full day Blogs as we go.....
Ahhhh, I feel much better now.

Thanks for the time, v

P.S. this simple post failed 5 times at Best Western with full signal strength.

Day 6 - Ouray , Colorado

July 8, 2011

East view from our deck of the Honeymoon Suite. Since we arrived late, the only room left was the suite, but the manager gave it to us for a great price. I was trying to catch up the blog....

Balcony North view

The lodge sign and a view west to it's nestled box canyon location. This property featured several hot spring fed tubs situated on a terrace behind the hotel. It felt so good after the long day's ride to kick back and relax in the hot water.

Leaving Ouray.

Back up Million Dollar Highway to get to Engineers Pass.

Had I been able to see this pass last night in the dark, I nay not have driven as fast as I did....

We caught the trail into the forest about 5 miles out of town and began a very steep and rocky ascent. I thought, " oh no, again with the rocks!" But it was a short mile section and was rewarded with this fall right next to the trail.

Snow into river near the top of Engineers Pass.

Nice ledge.

I made a snow man.

Nearing Engineer Pass summit.

No words, just awe at 12,800 Feet

The view to the rear captured in Juan's mirror.

Majestic.

Descent.

The windy road down.
The KLX is twisting below.

The deserted mining town of Ute.

Lunch break. It was amazing to see the start of the river from the snow melt.

Arriving in the town of Lake City.

Ice cream stop.

Our campsite at Lake Cristobal, about 5 miles out of town.

We purchased some wood from the site host and a neighbor gave us an armful more. Tonight's menu was freeze dried lasagna and frozen organic veggies from a market in town.

The threatening storm passed us by, and we are enjoying a clear night.
