East view from our deck of the Honeymoon Suite. Since we arrived late, the only room left was the suite, but the manager gave it to us for a great price. I was trying to catch up the blog....
Balcony North view
The lodge sign and a view west to it's nestled box canyon location. This property featured several hot spring fed tubs situated on a terrace behind the hotel. It felt so good after the long day's ride to kick back and relax in the hot water.
Leaving Ouray.
Back up Million Dollar Highway to get to Engineers Pass.
Had I been able to see this pass last night in the dark, I nay not have driven as fast as I did....
We caught the trail into the forest about 5 miles out of town and began a very steep and rocky ascent. I thought, " oh no, again with the rocks!" But it was a short mile section and was rewarded with this fall right next to the trail.
Snow into river near the top of Engineers Pass.
Nice ledge.
I made a snow man.
Nearing Engineer Pass summit.
No words, just awe at 12,800 Feet
GPS Confirms 12,867'
The view to the rear captured in Juan's mirror.
Majestic.
Descent.
The windy road down.
The KLX is twisting below.
The deserted mining town of Ute.
Lunch break. It was amazing to see the start of the river from the snow melt.
Arriving in the town of Lake City.
Ice cream stop.
Our campsite at Lake Cristobal, about 5 miles out of town.
We purchased some wood from the site host and a neighbor gave us an armful more. Tonight's menu was freeze dried lasagna and frozen organic veggies from a market in town.
The threatening storm passed us by, and we are enjoying a clear night.
